My Sloppy Seconds

Keeping to my goals, I ran 3.5 miles yesterday! It was tough and hot so on the last mile Daniel and I decided to walk and talk. Then later in the evening we decided to go on another walk around town and went about 4 miles!

After the run we had left overs (the mango grilled chicken wrap) and a fruit smoothie. We were running out of supplies so I added a banana, greek yogurt, orange juice, blueberries, strawberries, and pineapple. Ok that doesn’t sound like we’re running out but we were out of almond milk, spinach, and frozen fruit. I added 5 ice cubes to fill it out more and make it nice and cold.

We had all that fruit only because my mom gave us a fruit platter that she forgotten to serve on saturday. Yummy fruit!

For dinner we had my left overs from saturday, the Fajita Taco Salad. Then we had all the ingredients for some Tomato Basil Wontons so of course we had to make those. I realize we eat those a lot… They’re just so good! I’m addicted. Is there a Tomato-Basil-Wonton-Eaters Anonymous? If so, you can’t make me go!

So I think I owe you a little weigh-in — it’s been over a week! Ok, so last time I was 132.8 on July 30th.  I’m down to 131.8 lbs. I’ll take it! That’s three pounds down. Not speedy but it’s definitely a healthy weight loss. I wish it was faster. I wanted to be down 10 lbs by the time school started August 26th. I’m not sure I’ll make it. That does make me a little disappointed. I’ve been making some unhealthy decisions and not working out enough. I hope in the next two weeks I can stay on track so I can see some more improvement. It’d be nice to get over that 5 lb mark!

Popeye!

The sailor man! Actually, the chicken. Why is it a chicken place? Shouldn’t they at least include some spinach? Either way, it is so good! I need to stop eating with my parent’s because they always make me eat bad things. Ok, I didn’t have to have Popeye’s but we were out getting them new phones and I was hungry. My parent’s now each have the iPhone 5. And neither of them text but they want to. They think having the iPhone will make it easier for them to text. Anybody have texting parents out there? Should I be prepared to get a lot of messages from them now?

Anyways I screwed up my calories pretty bad yesterday. Surprisingly it wasn’t even the chicken that was that bad, it was the biscuits! And I had two!

Snack 2 Slices of toast 90

I also couldn’t resist my Nutella craving. Ok, it wasn’t really Nutella, it’s the healthier organic off brand, Nocciolata.

Nutella and toast

I actually like it better than Nutella. It’s creamy-licious and has a shorter ingredient list which always makes me feel better. What’s your favorite thing to put Nutella on? My mom used to spread it on crackers for me and my sister when we were little. It’s also good in smoothies (with banana and almond butter), in tortillas, and on fruit.

Today, Daniel and I will be heading to Topeka to stay the night at his sister’s house and then we’ll go with them to World’s Of Fun and Ocean’s Of Fun! I’m so excited! I can’t remember the last time I was on a roller coaster. Maybe 3 years ago? There’s no healthy food options there so hopefully I don’t wreck my calories like I did today. I think we might pack something so we don’t have to buy food there. Plus, it’s ridiculously expensive and I’m cheap.

I hope you all have a fabulous thursday and fun friday!

Oh Baby I like It Raw

Yesterday started off fairly healthy with my usual breakfast of cereal (lame, I know, but it’s easy) and then some filling snacks.  I had some fresh orange and yellows peppers with delicious smooth ranch dip (it’s like crack to me, I love it).  I always thought that fresh vegetables were better for you than cooked but I wasn’t sure if that was myth or not so I decided to solve the mystery. Scientific American has an article explaining the pros and cons of cooking raw vegetables.  I always thought cooking destroyed the proteins and vitamins (which is somewhat true) but boiling and steaming veggies can actually increase some of the antioxidants. The downfall is that Vitamin C, being highly unstable, breaks down when heated.  Cooking helps us digest but then the heat also denatures enzymes that aid in digestion as well. So basically, there’s no one straight answer. A combination of cooked and raw fruits and vegetables is your best bet for obtaining a balance of vitamins, antioxidants, and enzymes that help your body.

I know some people think cooked vegetables taste better but I think raw can be just as tasty! (With some dip of course)

I managed to have some of them cooked veggies too! Brown rice with bell peppers and a little teriyaki, soy sauce, garlic and onion powder, honey, and sesame oil. Mmm Mmm!

Stir fry veggies

Here’s where things went bad….

My mom suggested it and how am I suppose to say no to something so tasty?

Wednesday’s meals:

Meal Food Calories
Breakfast Cereal 120
Almond milk 30
Snack Peppers and ranch dip 60
Fiber One Bar (just half) 70
Lunch Brown rice and stir fry veggies 170
Dinner Chinese Food 696

Luckily with the first part of the day being so good, it didn’t push my calories over with the Chinese food.

And I went running THREE miles! There’s this route I used to always take in my parent’s neighborhood that has an intense hill. I used to run about a mile to it, then it’s a little less than a half mile down it and when I reached the bottom I would turn around and go right back up it and run back home. I did pretty well making it up most of it but had to walk the last little stretch. Then I had a to walk another block after that and stretch out but from there I was able to run all the way home! Not bad for feeling like I’m out of shape. I have a love/hate relationship with hills. I never feel like I have that good of run if there isn’t some challenge like a hill but at the same times hills just SUCK. The feeling after conquering that hill though feels pretty good.

Any body conquer some hills lately? Or accomplish anything they’re proud of?
